The IGP has transferred, with immediate effect, 99 senior police officers including senior DIGPs, DIGPs, SSPs, ASPs and 109 OICs on the 6th.  

Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka who was in charge of anti-crime operations in the Central Province and Colombo division, Senior DIG Nimal Lewke, in charge of North Central Province, several Senior DIGs, Senior SPs and ASPs are among those who have received sudden transfers.

Also, 109 Senior IPs, IPs and SIs too have been transferred with immediate effect says police spokesman SP Priyashanthe Jayakody.

The transfers have been made with the approval of the Defense Secretary as the independent police commission has not been activated. It is interesting to note that among those police officers who have been transferred are police officers who carried out their duties impartially during the election.
