Monday, 08 February 2010 14:43

A special investigation would be carried out to sort out the police officers who supported the opposition at the presidential elections and they would be sacked from service states Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse.

Speaking to a daily newspaper Mr. Rajapakse had said he had got information that the group of police officers had supported the opposition assuming that ‘Swan’ would be victorious at the election.

He had said police officers should not indulge in politics; they have to carry out their service to the masses honestly and should win the confidence of the people. He had said the officers of the three services too should be free of politics to render their services to the nation.

However, according to reports the OIC and several other officers at Kurunegala Police have been given punishment transfers for apprehending a Navy vehicle transporting propaganda leaflets of the UPFA and posters slinging mud at the opposition candidate.

The Defense Secretary has also failed to take any action against Senior SP Vas Gunawardene, who, shamelessly mediated in getting the navy vehicle released (We have published the video) thereby  derogated the police service.
